A PET/CT scan combines both technologies into one machine. It provides a picture of cellular function (PET), a picture of physical structure (CT), a merged picture of the body’s cellular function and physical structure.
Benefits include:
- improves diagnostic confidence for patients who have or may have cancer
- reduces the need for invasive procedures, like a biopsy or surgery
- helps avoid the “wait and see” method often used to monitor potential disease
